MealChord — Your Cooking Companion

Effective May 23, 2026 · Last updated August 5, 2026

Overview

MealChord helps you manage your pantry, discover recipes, plan meals, and reduce food waste. We collect only what we need to operate and improve the app. We do not sell your data or show advertising.

Information we collect

Account and app data

Depending on how you sign in, we may collect your email address, optional first name, or a Sign in with Apple identifier. We store the pantry items, recipes, shopping lists, meal plans, preferences, and waste records you create so they can persist and sync with your account.

Images

Images used to scan ingredients or receipts are sent through our backend to our AI provider for processing. We do not intentionally retain the original scan after the request completes. The AI provider handles request content under its applicable service terms and data-retention settings.

Pantry-item photos and profile images you choose to save are stored in cloud storage until you remove them or delete your account.

Analytics, diagnostics, and AI records

We collect product-interaction information such as feature actions, timestamps, a pseudonymous session identifier, and app/device version information. First-party analytics stored in Supabase may be linked to your account.

Crash and performance diagnostics are gathered on your device by Apple's MetricKit and stored locally on that device. We do not send crash reports or performance traces to any third-party monitoring service.

We may retain AI-interaction and recipe-generation records to evaluate and improve our prompts, safety checks, and features. These records can include pantry context, dietary preferences, disliked ingredients, search text, and generated output. We do not claim that this data trains Anthropic's general-purpose models.

Music integrations and local data

If you connect Apple Music, authorization tokens remain in the iOS Keychain and are not sent to MealChord servers. Playback commands go to the provider app. We do not collect listening history or playlist contents. Your selected music provider may be stored with your account as a preference so it can sync across devices. Onboarding progression is stored locally on your device.

How we use information

We do not use your information for advertising or sell it to third parties.

Service providers

We may also disclose information to processors acting on our behalf, or when required for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, or protection of users and the service.

Device permissions

MealChord may request camera access for scanning; microphone and speech recognition for dictation; and Media & Apple Music access for cooking mode. Permissions are requested when needed and can be revoked in iOS Settings.

Retention and deletion

Security

Data is encrypted in transit using TLS. Database Row-Level Security limits account data access to its owner. Password handling is delegated to Supabase Auth. Scan images travel through our backend rather than directly from the app to the AI provider.

Your choices and rights

You may access core kitchen data in the app, use the in-app convenience export for supported kitchen data, request a more complete account-linked export, delete your account, or revoke device permissions. Contact us to exercise a right that is not available in the app.

Children

MealChord is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes

We may update this policy. We will notify you in the app or by email when changes are significant.
