Help for Wake Up: Wrist Tap Alarm

What you need

Frequently asked questions

How do I set and arm an alarm each night?

Set your alarm on iPhone. Then open Wake Up on your Apple Watch and tap Arm on this Watch. Saving on iPhone is not arming: the wrist alarm only runs after you arm it on the Watch. Do this each night.

How do routines work?

You can save weekday and weekend times so you do not need to enter them each day. After you dismiss an alarm, or when Wake Up next runs, the next occurrence is prepared. You still need to open the Watch app and arm each wrist alarm.

How do wrist tap patterns and snooze work?

Gentle taps build over three minutes, Steady taps build over one minute, and Persistent taps come every second. For snooze you can choose none, one five-minute pause, or unlimited pauses. When taps resume after a pause, they return at their fastest pace. Wake Up changes how often the taps come, not how strong they are.

How does the optional phone sound backup work? Silent Mode, Focus and volume

If you turn it on, your iPhone plays a sound alarm three, five or ten minutes after wrist taps begin, whichever delay you choose. It needs alarm permission. Sound follows your iPhone's alarm volume. Check your volume and your Focus settings before bed. Wake Up does not change your Focus settings. It cannot sound if the iPhone has no power.

How do I check batteries?

The before-bed view shows the battery level of both your iPhone and Apple Watch, with charging guidance. An optional bedtime reminder can be turned on in Settings. Battery forecasts are estimates, and no alarm can work on a device without power.

What is the first-night practice test?

On your Watch, tap the info button, then Try wrist taps. A sample tap is immediate and you confirm it. A separate scheduled test starts after one minute; end it with Finish test on the Watch. Practice never arms a real alarm and schedules no phone sound. Then set and arm your real alarm separately.

My iPhone and Apple Watch are out of sync.

Open Wake Up on both devices, keep Bluetooth on, and keep the devices near each other. Each app shows Last heard from… for the other device so you can see when they last connected. Dismissing on one device while disconnected may be delayed until they sync.

How do I install the Watch app?

On your iPhone, open the Watch app, tap My Watch, scroll to Available Apps, and tap Install next to Wake Up.

What is walking confirmation and why does it ask for motion permission?

It is optional. After an alarm, the Watch looks for five qualifying walking minutes using step counts and activity classification. Open Wake Up on the Watch to finish after it is detected. It does not prove you are awake. If you decline motion permission, you can still dismiss manually. You can change the permission in system Settings, and turn the feature off in the alarm editor.

How do I delete my data?

In the app, you can export your history as JSON or clear this iPhone's history. Clearing on iPhone does not erase the Watch's copy. Deleting Wake Up from your iPhone and Watch removes the data stored by the app. See the Privacy Policy.

Can I rely on Wake Up as my only alarm?

No. Wake Up cannot guarantee you will wake up. System Stop can end wrist taps, and Watch sessions have system limits. If oversleeping would have serious consequences, use more than one alarm. See the Terms of Use.
